Discover Countless Ways To Play
PATTERN POWER Create a linear pattern using four blocks. Have kids replicate the pattern. Increase the difficulty by adding more blocks.
RAINBOW REVIEW Have kids sort the pattern blocks by color. Ask them to count the number of pieces of each color. Review the names of each geometric shape with kids (green = triangle; yellow = hexagon; red = trapezoid; orange = square; blue = large rhombus/diamond; white = small rhombus/diamond).
SHAPE SHIFT Have kids combine two or more blocks to make another shape. For example: two triangles make one rhombus. Stacking the blocks on top of each other may help kids better visualize the equivalency.
7 WAYS Have kids find seven different ways to replicate the hexagon. 1) two trapezoids 2) six triangles 3) three rhombuses/diamonds 4) one trapezoid, one triangle, and a rhombus/diamond 5) one trapezoid and three triangles 6) four triangles and one rhombus/diamond 7) two rhombuses/diamonds and two triangles
About Melissa & Doug
Our mission is to provide a launch pad to ignite imagination and a sense of wonder in all children so they can discover themselves, their passions, and their purpose.
There was a time not so long ago when childhood offered the space and freedom for children to explore their world. To be curious. To be creative. To be bold. To be bored. To just . . . be. Today, our overstimulated and overscheduled children are using their imaginations less than ever. It’s a crisis in the making. And it’s why we’re committed to making products that inspire creative thinking and encourage kids to see new possibilities. It’s also why the American Academy of Pediatrics chose to join forces with us to champion the health benefits of open-ended play.
We make toys and other products that offer Countless Ways To Play. We believe the best playthings are often simple concepts that inspire children to come up with their own twists. With everything we create, we hope to encourage:
